What happened in Appleton
CCS answered this water emergency in Appleton on May 8, 2024, and took 23 photos through late May.
The water came through the textured ceiling of a dining room with dark green walls and a chandelier. Rather than tear the ceiling down, the crew drilled small holes in it, marked with blue tape, and ran thin hoses from a drying unit into each one to push dry air through the ceiling cavity. The furniture was wrapped in plastic, and a zippered plastic door sealed off the kitchen.
On May 16 a crew member checked the ceiling with a moisture meter at each hose point, around the ceiling medallion and across the open areas. By May 25 the hoses were gone, the holes were patched and the ceiling had been refinished to match. Drying a ceiling in place through small holes saves the cost and mess of replacing the drywall when it is caught early.
