What happened in Northeast Area
This Green Bay basement took on water in spring 2023, and the wood paneling along the lower walls soaked it up. The photos show the moisture readings on the paneling, the lower boards removed in a band around the room, and the closets and storage areas that were opened up as part of the cleanup.
With the paneling off, the framing and the bottom plates could dry, and the crew checked the readings until the wood was back to normal. A pink insulation wall in one closet shows how far up the cut went.
Paneling and the furring strips behind it hold water for a long time if they're left in place. Cutting the lower section is faster and cheaper than waiting to see whether it dries on its own, and it keeps mold from getting started behind the wall.
