What happened in Green Bay
This Green Bay attic had mold on the roof boards and rafters above a thick layer of blown-in insulation. The photos from January 2023 show the crew working through the space with lights, checking the framing and the underside of the roof, and treating the wood.
Attics are hard to photograph, but the images show the stained sheathing, the rafters, the insulation and the attic access, along with a room below where the attic hatch is. The crew treated the affected wood with an antimicrobial and checked the areas around the access and along the eaves, where condensation tends to collect.
Most attic mold comes from warm air leaking up from the house. Sealing gaps around the hatch, light fixtures and vent pipes, and making sure the bath fan vents outside, does more to prevent it than anything else.
