What happened in Sturgeon Bay

This Sturgeon Bay homeowner asked CCS to look at their basement framing in March 2022. They found us on Google. CCS came out for a free mold assessment and wrote up an estimate.

The photos show the underside of the main floor: the old beams and floor joists, the subfloor boards, the support posts and the open basement below. The assessment looked at staining and growth on the wood, places where joists had been added alongside the originals and the condition of the framing near the foundation.

In older Door County homes, basement framing often sits close to damp stone or block walls with little airflow. An assessment shows how far any growth has spread and what it would take to clean, treat and keep it dry.

β€œWe recently had our roof done and I wanted a second pair of eyes to ensure no mold was present due to having leaks for some time. Mike Wotruba showed up thankfully after roofing rescheduled twice and he was so accommodating. Super helpful with questions and went above and beyond for me.”

Mold remediation questions, answered

Does CCS Property Services do mold remediation in Sturgeon Bay?

Yes. This project was in Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235, and our crews work throughout Sturgeon Bay and the surrounding area. Our Green Bay office is about 44 miles away. This is one of 8 mold remediation projects we've published from Sturgeon Bay. Assessments are free.

How fast can someone come out to Sturgeon Bay?

We schedule assessments as quickly as we can, with priority for active leaks and deadlines like a home sale closing. Request a call back above or call (920) 435-2288.

Is the mold assessment free?

Yes. We inspect the area, look for the moisture source and explain what we find. You only pay if you choose to move forward with remediation.

What's the difference between mold removal and mold remediation?

Removal means cleaning off visible mold. Remediation is the full process: containment, removing damaged materials, cleaning, treating and fixing the moisture that caused it. Removal alone often leads to the mold coming back.

How much does mold remediation cost?

It depends on the size of the area, what's growing on (drywall, wood framing, insulation) and access. A small bathroom or window area costs far less than a full basement or attic. You get a written price after the free assessment.

Does insurance cover mold remediation?

Often it does when the mold comes from a sudden covered event, like a burst pipe or appliance leak. Mold from long-term humidity or slow leaks usually isn't covered. We'll tell you which it looks like and work with your adjuster if you file a claim.

Can I stay in my home during mold remediation?

Usually, yes. We seal off the work area and run HEPA filtration so spores don't spread. If a space needs to be off-limits, we'll tell you before we start.

Will the mold come back?

Not if the moisture is fixed. Every job starts by finding the source, whether it's a leak, poor ventilation or high humidity, and that fix is part of the plan.

Is black mold dangerous?

Any mold growing indoors should be taken seriously, especially for people with allergies, asthma or weakened immune systems. The color doesn't tell you how harmful it is. Large areas (more than about 10 square feet) should be handled by professionals, per EPA guidance.
