What happened in Historic Central
CCS inspected this basement in the Historic Central area of Appleton on November 21, 2025, as a free mold assessment, and documented it with 13 photos. The owner received a written estimate for remediation.
Part of the basement had wood stud walls built in front of the foundation with the wall covering already off, so the crew could see straight through to the foundation wall. Dark mold and staining showed on the foundation behind the studs, along the bottom plates and on the concrete at the base of the walls. Other walls are finished in wood paneling, and one small room has a green painted wall over a tile floor.
Moisture readings were taken on the bottom plates and at the base of the paneling, and a digital monitor recorded the humidity and temperature in the basement. High basement humidity combined with framing built tight against a cold foundation is a common recipe for mold behind finished walls.
