What happened in Appleton
CCS inspected this attic in Appleton on June 27, 2025, as a free mold assessment, and documented it with 2 photos. The owner received a written estimate for remediation.
The photos were taken by flashlight between the rafters. The roof sheathing above the insulation is dark across the whole bay, from the eave up toward the peak, and the second photo looks straight up at the boards between two rafters, where the darkening covers the surface edge to edge.
When the underside of a roof deck turns dark evenly like this, the usual cause is warm, moist air from the living space getting into the attic and condensing on the cold boards in winter. An assessment checks the attic ventilation, the bath fan ducts and any gaps in the ceiling below to find where that air is coming from, since fixing the source is what keeps the mold from coming back.
